February @ Orbit 19

February 29th, 2012

Love is in the air this time of year, and we hope a few of Cupid’s arrows find their way to your heart and you fall in love with us all over again. And we’re making it hard to say no to temptation with our incredible lineup of events in February. From a solid lineup of music and shows to hosting a kickass Valentine’s Day party where we crown the first-ever Miss Orbit 19, we’re sure you’ll find a special place in your heart for us. And the best part is, you don’t need to buy us any flowers or chocolates; you had us at “Hello.”

Friday, February 3 -

There’s no better way to start February than with one of the Bay Area’s most popular acts, The Stick Martin Show. You’ve seen him here at Orbit 19 every Monday night, hosting one of the Bay area’s most entertaining and hip Open Mic nights, but this time, Stick Martin brings the rest of the guys along with him for the wildly-entertaining Stick Martin Show. As a recurring winner of Creative Loafing’s Reader’s Poll for “Best Hip Hop Act” and “Best Local Singer/Songwriter”, The SMS infuse every performance with a perfect balance of “party –rocking hip-hop and dance tracks with alternative, pop and a Ween-like sense of prankishness.” Stick Martin describes it as, “Lots of hip-hop, a bit of punk, bar rock and some country stomp.” Whatever it is, we always want it here at Orbit 19. Come check them out.

Friday, February 10 -

Orbit 19 favorites The Proper Crooks are back again bringing their unique blend of alternative/post-punk-meets-jazz sensibilities. Each and every time they grace our lounge they put on an incredible live show, and this night should be no exception. They always pack the house and bring together all the classic elements of a vintage rock-n-roll show, complete in almost every way.

Tuesday, February 14, Valentine’s Day -

Sure, we know it’s a made-up, corporate holiday designed to boost sales in the flower, chocolate, and greeting card industries. So what? Who doesn’t want, and frankly, NEED a little lovin’ sometimes? And we’re always looking for an excuse to throw another one of those kickass parties that we’re known for.

First, we are proud to have Miss Vita Devoid and her troupe of Vaudevillains, an exciting group of young ladies skilled in the art of burlesque. There’ll be tassles and classic pin-up beauties gracing our stage teasing and titillating, getting all the lovebirds prepared for the night’s festivities.

Providing the music is The Living Deads, featuring Teddy Boy and Kalamity Kat. The Living Deads are a rhythm section “born of hate, hellfire and brimstone.” featuring Teddy Boy on guitar and Kalamity Kat on vocals. They’ll be bringing you a night of red hot rockabilly and providing the soundtrack for a wild, sexy evening.

Then, the highlight of the night will be our first-annual Miss Orbit 19 Pin-Up Girl Contest where we crown our very first spokesmodel and representative for the lounge! Contestants must register prior to the competition and meet all eligibility requirements, which in addition to some technical stuff means that the #1 requirement is that you are as badass as Orbit 19 itself. The winner will represent Orbit 19 at all special events, and will win an assortment of prizes. So make sure you get there early and check out all the contestants and make your voice heard for who you think should be the next Miss Orbit 19!

The whole night is sponsored by Cointreau orange liqueur, so we will feature Cointreau drink specials, and the first 100 people will get a complimentary Conitreau cupcake! If there’s one party you HAVE to attend this year, this is it. Do not miss this.

Friday, February 24 -

Finally, rounding out the month of February is a monster of a night that comes in the shape of a four-headed music monster. Four incredible bands will share the stage to bring everyone what you’ve come to expect from us at Orbit 19: solid, eclectic, original music.

In addition to locals Juan Pablo, we also host Tarpon Springs’ own Ophelia. Self-described as “folk/experimental”, Ophelia delivers a unique blend of instrumentation and musicianship, blending and mixing alternative forms of music with nonstandard instruments to weave a tapestry of sound that you’ll want to hear for yourself.

The Mother Machine also joins the bill where they will do what they do best, which is to say deliver an experience both sonic and visual. Best described as an experimental, dreamy, psychedelic, rock band out of Orlando, Florida, their overall goal is a visual art driven band, with heavy focus on melodic sonic stimulation.

Last but certainly not least is Orlando’s Alias Punch. Their sound has been described best as “a curious blend of ’60s garage and left-field ’80s post-punk,” and Creative Loafing said, “Quentin Tarantino would probably like Orlando’s Alias Punch. Their sound, an ample helping of fuzzed-out guitar tones wrapped in the cheeky badassery of a 1970′s-era B-movie, seems right at home in the background of some afroed-out she-ninja fight scene, western church massacre, or whatever other imagery would surely get Tarantino’s directorial rocks off.” Well, damn. That sounds like they’re right up our alley! And we’re willing to be you will love them, too.

So whether you embrace the holiday devoted to love and lovers, or you’re the type to turn your nose up at such silliness, we’re positive that everyone will find something to love at Orbit 19 this month. From a generous, diverse music lineup to another instant-classic themed party, we have everything you’re looking for in a classy, eclectic, upscale lounge. Our friendly staff is here waiting to serve you up one of our award-winning cocktails or craft beers. So stop in anytime, and let us share our love with you. We promise, we won’t ever break your heart.
