So, according to the Mayans, this is the last year on Earth before everything explodes and catches on fire and turns into a Jerry Bruckheimer film (how the Mayans could predict the end of the world but not see their own civilization’s demise coming is puzzling, but we’ll deal with that another time). In any case, we’re not about to waste any opportunities to party like the end is near. As a matter of fact, we’ve made it our New Year’s resolution to step our game up and re-vamp some things to make sure 2012 is our best year yet… especially if it’s the last.
With that in mind, we’ve made some subtle but amazing changes to some of our weekly events at Orbit 19. You’ll still get all the quality music and events you’ve come to expect from us, but we’ve just put a little “spin” on some things. Such as:
Thursdays -
Video DJ Jason Barco begins VINTAGE YOUTH. A feast for the eyes and ears. A night of Modern Rock, Dance (e.g The Cure to Bloc Party, Echo & The Bunnymen to the Editors) paired with a video experience that is not to be missed. Vinyl Lotion every Saturday night with our resident deejay, DJ D-Volv. spinning underground hip-hop and mash-up. A vinyl purist from New York City by way of Seattle, DJ D-Volv has been spinning for almost a decade. Come groove with us while enjoying our nightly drink specials. Mondays -
Open Mic night every Monday hosted by Stick Martin. As a recurring winner of Creative Loafing’s Reader’s Poll for “Best Hip Hop Act” and “Best Local Singer/Songwriter”, The Stick infuses every performance with a perfect balance of “party –rocking hip-hop and dance tracks with alternative, pop and a Ween-like sense of prankishness.” Stick Martin describes it as, “Lots of hip-hop, a bit of punk, bar rock and some country stomp.” Whatever it is, we always want it here at Orbit 19. Come check them out. Hey, maybe bring your slide whistle and play along… If you’ve got the balls, we got the mic! With $2 Newcastle, Guiness, and Bass draft specials.
On Monday, January 23rd, a special edition of Open Mic night! Celebrate Chinese New Year with Stick “THE DRAGON” Martin, along with Chinese Dragon Dancers, Plate Spinners, and Ribbon Dancers! It’s the Year of the Dragon, and Stick and the performers are gonna slay you with great music, amazing performances, and drink specials like $2.00 Import Drafts and $4.75 Sky Dragon Fruit Vodka Bombs. It’s gonna wobble on Wed. at Orbit 19 from 9:00 PM – 2:00 AM, as DJ lord Fader works his music video magic playing UNDERGROUND UK ELECTRONICA + DUB-STEP! Ever see a DJ scratch with a video? Well come out and enjoy a cool beverage and some hot bass music, and see the most wicked mix in person! No cover! This is the only Dubstep night in the area.
